
Blacksmithing Qualification Class – Safety and Operation
2 day qualification class
Thursday September 23, 5:30 – 8:30 pm
Friday September 24, 5:30 – 7:30 pm
(Members Qualified/Certified in Metal do not need to attend the first night, you may choose to review the metal equipment again during the first class)
Cost:
Public $108 + $10 material fee
Member $90 + $10 material fee
Minimum participants 1/ Maximum 3
This class qualifies you to use the blacksmithing area in the Forge if you are a member. It is also appropriate if you only wish to learn how to use the equipment in a typical blacksmith shop. It is not an official or professional certification.
Please review the machine manuals and videos you can access and review here on our website before you attend this class. (There are also some quizzes you will complete after your qualification hands on portion. Do not do the quizzes before the class.)
Be sure to arrive EARLY.
- Bring your own safety goggles and well fitting work gloves.
- Wear long pants of cotton, leather or natural fibers – no loose clothing
- If you have long hair please tie it back
- Wear work boots or closed toe shoes (leather not fabric).
- Bring a water bottle
To complete the qualification process you must attend both 2 days. You will then come back for your practicum (to be scheduled with your facilitator *You must attend the practicum if your intention is to join the Forge, must join within 6 weeks of class.
Practicum is where you will show that you are proficient in using the equipment without supervision.
It is your responsibility to show up on time for your class. You may not be able to participate if you are late.
COVID precautions are taken at The Forge, per county guidelines, please wear face-covering while in The Curious Forge.
