Wood shop Qualification class – Safety and Operation
1st Wednesday of the Month with Wood Area Manager, Dave Sherr. Pre-registration required, purchase your ticket below.
Open to public – this class teaches you how to use standard wood shop equipment safely. It is not an official or professional certification. (Equipment: Table saw, miter saw, bandsaw, panel saw, jointer, planer, drill press)
This class qualifies you to use the Forge woodshop area if you are wanting to become a Forge member. Or, the class is great for anyone wanting to learn how to appropriately and safely use wood shop equipment in their own shop.
Please plan on spending about 3.5+ hours during the first day of the qualification process. You will then come back (list specific date/time here, *you must attend the practicum if your intention is to join the Forge, must join within 6 weeks of class) and do the practicum part of the qualification. This is where you will show that you are proficient in using the equipment without supervision. There are some machine manuals and videos you can access and review here on our website. There are also some quizzes you will complete after your qualification hands on portion. Do not do the quizzes before the class.
Please dress appropriately for working in the high bay.
- Closed-toe shoes
- No loose draping clothing, ties or strings that could get caught in the machinery
- Tie back long hair
- Wear Safety Goggles in the High Bay
Please arrive a few minutes early.
It is your responsibility to show up on time for your class. You may not be able to participate if you are late.
