SEEING PATTERN, FORM, & COLOR TO ENHANCE FIBER ARTS DESIGN w/Leslie Whitcomb

November 1, 2020 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm PST

|Recurring Event (See all)

One event on November 29, 2022 at 11:00 am

To be rescheduled.   If you are interested in taking this class, please email: spark@thecuriousforge.org.

This workshop will encourage the participant to step out into nature and take time to ‘see’ pattern, form and color in nature with a clarity that can enhance design in Fiber Arts. This workshop will encourage the participant to move past comfortable and long held habits of design.

Pattern, Form and Color form the foundation of all fiber arts design. Fluency in translating patterns, forms and colors around you – into weaving drafts, sewing/knitting/crocheting patterns, felt structures and spinning/dyeing spectra will enhance the depth, power and beauty of your craft.

This workshop will be helpful to fiber artists – weavers, spinners, knitters, felters, crocheters, quilters and seamstresses. It is equally accessible to folks who work with jewelry and clay if interested.

2 Day Class Schedule:

Sunday, November 1, 11 AM – 1 PM    Part One – Week One

Meet at the Nash Rambler Trail in Grass Valley

Bring yarns, sketch book, camera, your minds’ eye, fiber, cloth bits and samples

Walk and take note of seasonal patterns; these include risks and depletions in our landscape, transitional beauty in color and structured patterns based on the season. Repetition, random rhythms and structural supports for fluid changes in color and form over time, will be especially highlighted. Bittersweet celebration and/or marking the passage of treasured aspects of our landscape that can be altered all too quickly by weather or fire will be especially highlighted.

Sunday, November 8,  11 AM – 1 PM   Part Two – Week Two

Bring notes and samples to the Curious Forge

A sample loom with twill variety treadlings will be available with multiple yarn colors.

Sample colored fleece will be available for mixing colors.

Cloth samples will be available for mixing color and shape in design.
