Description
Raku: a process by which pottery is fired at a relatively low temperature and then moved while hot to a closed container with combustible materials (as paper or sawdust) that ignite and cause a reaction creating colors and patterns in the pottery’s surface. also: Pottery produced using this process.
What to expect: The first two days of this four session Raku Workshop will be hand-building pieces to prepare for a raku firing. Explore the fun and variety hand-building with clay allows. The third day the hand-built pieces will be glazed with lustrous raku glazes. Finally the fourth session will be the fun and addictive raku firing.
- Hand construction from clay
- Under-glazing with colored clay if desired
- Glazing with raku glazes
- Participating in a day of raku firing party (BBQ Potluck & Beverages)
- Voila! Your masterpiece will be revealed!!!!
Although this is primarily a Raku class, the students will have the option of firing their pieces to stoneware temperatures.
