Learn to Use Metal Shop Tools and Equipment
Class Description:
This class is intended to teach you how to safely use the Metal Shop Equipment at The Forge and understand how the metal shop operates. It is suitable for members who want to use the Forge Metal Shop or individuals wanting to learn how to safely use their own metalworking equipment.
Details:
- Open to the Public: This class teaches you how to use standard metal shop equipment safely. It is not an official or professional certification.
- Equipment Covered: Angle grinder, bench grinder, horizontal bandsaws, portable bandsaw, iron worker, drill presses, belt and disk sanders, abrasive cabinet, Evolution Cold Saw, 3-way metal fabricator, vertical bandsaw, portable bandsaw, and air compressor.
- Note: Welding and Plasma Torch are covered in separate classes.
- Qualification: This class qualifies you to use the equipment in the metal area at the Forge if you are a member. Members must complete the practicum, which will be scheduled with the facilitator.

Prior to Attending:
Online Learning Materials:
- Access and review the Metalshop Qualification materials and videos provided to you upon purchase of the class BEFORE THE CLASS- There are 6 hours of materials to go over.
- If you have not reviewed the online course materials before class, you will not be allowed to take the class.
Class 2 Days: Interactive Workshop (4 hours each day)
- Introduction: Safety and Operations
- Hands-On Training
Online Assessment:
- Complete Quizzes: Take online quizzes until you achieve at least a 90% score (unlimited attempts allowed).
- Optional for Public Participants: If you’re not planning getting qualified to use The Forge’s equipment, these quizzes are optional.
Practicum: Qualification Assessment (≈1.5 hour)
- For Forge Members: Demonstrate your proficiency and confidence in using the laser cutting equipment independently.
- Optional for Public Participants: If you’re not planning to use The Forge’s equipment, the practicum is optional.
- Scheduling: The practicum is scheduled individually with the facilitator and must be completed within 2 weeks of the class for qualification.
Class Size:
- Minimum Participants: 3/Maximum Participants: 3 (Class will be rescheduled if the minimum participant requirement is not met)

Please note: All classes require a minimum number of participants and may be rescheduled if that minimum is not met. If this happens, we’ll let you know in advance and work with you to get you into the next available class.
Cancellation Policy
Please review our cancellation policy before booking. If you need to cancel your registration, you must notify us at least 7 days before the class start time to receive a refund. Cancellations made within 7 days are non-refundable.
