Class Overview
Explore the art of painting in this fun and immersive four-session workshop! Using a simple and effective four-step approach, you’ll learn how to bring any subject to life—whether it’s a portrait, a wildflower-filled landscape, or a captivating still life. Over four weeks, you’ll gain a broader understanding of composition, color, value, and texture, ending the series with a completed painting you’re proud of. Guided by Chappy, you’ll receive personalized instruction tailored to your creative vision.
What You’ll Learn:
- A straightforward four-step painting process
- Principles of composition, color, value, and texture
- How to translate your chosen subject into a successful painting
What to Bring:
- Any opaque medium and matching brushes (Don’t buy any new paints until after you attend the first class and Chappy will review supplies with you)
- Two painting surfaces (canvas, paper, board, etc.)
- Several photos of your subject (5×7 or larger hard copy recommended or an iPad)
- A painting smock or old clothes

About The Facilitator
Chappy Valente
Chappy Valente, with over forty years of experience, has taught at the International School of Painting, Drawing & Sculpture in Italy and the Art Students League of New York. Now based in Nevada City, Chappy guarantees you’ll be delightfully surprised by the painting you’ll create by the end of the series.
Please note: All classes require a minimum number of participants and may be rescheduled if that minimum is not met. If this happens, we’ll let you know in advance and work with you to get you into the next available class.
Cancellation Policy
Please review our cancellation policy before booking. If you need to cancel your registration, you must notify us at least 7 days before the class start time to receive a refund. Cancellations made within 7 days are non-refundable.
