Blacksmithing Qualification Class – Safety and Operation
2-day qualification class
Disclaimer: This class does not cover blacksmithing technique, instead it is intended to learn how to use the Blacksmithing Equipment at The Forge safely and how the blacksmithing shop is run. This class is appropriate for someone wanting to qualify to become a Forge member, or for someone wanting to learn how to safely use their own blacksmithing equipment.
Open to public – this class teaches you how to use standard woodshop equipment safely. It is not an official or professional certification. (Equipment covered: Angle Grinder, Bench Grinder, 2×72 Belt Sander, Drill Press, Wet-Cut Horizontal Bandsaw, Propane Forges, and Hand Tools)
This class qualifies you to use the blacksmithing area in the Forge if you are a member. It is also appropriate if you only wish to learn how to use the equipment in a typical blacksmith shop. It is not an official or professional certification.
To complete the qualification process you must attend both hands-on days, and one day for a practicum (to be scheduled with your facilitator). You must attend the practicum if your intention is to join the Forge and work in the blacksmith studio. Practicum is where you will show that you are proficient in using the equipment without supervision.
