Immerse yourself in the fundamentals of sewing machine safety and operation with hands-on experience using our domestic machines. Suitable for all skill levels, whether you’re new to sewing or looking to refine your skills. This class can be used to learn how to use a machine on your own. This is not a class on technique.

Class Structure
Prior to Attending:
- Online Learning Materials: Access and review the domestic machine learning materials and videos provided to you upon purchase of the class
Class Day: Interactive Workshop (2.5+ hours)
- Introduction to Textile Studio Safety and Equipment: Learn about various textiles tools, safety protocols, and best practices.
- Hands-On Training: Safely operate our standard sewing machines, including setup, handling, and troubleshooting.
- Textile Studio Overview: Understand the organization of the textiles studio and learn how to maximize its resources for your creative projects.
Online Assessment:
- Complete Quizzes: Take online quizzes until you achieve at least a 90% score (unlimited attempts allowed).
- Optional for Public Participants: If you’re not planning getting qualified to use The Forge’s equipment, these quizzes are optional.
Practicum: Qualification Assessment (.5 hour)
- For Forge Members: Demonstrate your proficiency and confidence in using the domestic sewing machine independently.
- Optional for Public Participants: If you’re not planning to use The Forge’s equipment, the practicum is optional.
- Scheduling: The practicum is scheduled individually with the facilitator and must be completed within 2 weeks of the class for qualification.
This class serves to qualify you to use the domestic sewing machines in the Forge Textiles area and qualifies you to join the Forge if you join within 6 weeks of the class. It can be used to learn how to use a machine on your own. This is not a class on technique.

Please note: All classes require a minimum number of participants and may be rescheduled if that minimum is not met. If this happens, we’ll let you know in advance and work with you to get you into the next available class.
Cancellation Policy
Please review our cancellation policy before booking. If you need to cancel your registration, you must notify us at least 7 days before the class start time to receive a refund. Cancellations made within 7 days are non-refundable.
