High Relief Wood Carving with Ron Ramsey

In this hands-on workshop, master woodcarver Ron Ramsey will guide you through his unique, beginner-friendly method of creating highly dimensional relief carvings. Using a simple system of built-up pieces, you’ll learn techniques that make it possible for anyone—even complete beginners—to create an impressive wood sculpture.
You’ll gain experience with both hand and power tools, explore airbrushing stain to add shadows and depth, and learn finishing methods to give your piece professional polish. Whether you’re dreaming of carving signs, sculptural reliefs, or architectural details, this class provides you with skills you can build on for years to come.

Meet Your Facilitator:
Ron Ramsey has been a professional woodcarver for 54 years, creating thousands of carved mantels, doors, sculptures, and signs. He has taught at The Mark Adams School of Woodworking, Sierra Nevada College, The Curious Forge, and through arts education programs. His work earned the Woodworking Network’s People’s Choice Award in 2016, and his teaching has inspired many—including apprentices who went on to become professional carvers, such as Disney carver Raymond Kinman. Now mostly retired, Ramsey is dedicated to passing on his craft. View his work here.

- Cost: $350 + $75 materials fee
- Ages: Adults and teens 16+
- Project: Little Bear Wood Carving
- Class size: Min 2 / Max 6 participants (pre-registration required)
- If the class minimum is not met, it will be rescheduled.
