Learn to Use Sheet Metal Shop Equipment and Tools
Class Description:
This class is designed to teach you how to safely and effectively use the Sheet Metal Shop equipment at The Forge, as well as understand how the shop operates. It is suitable for members who want to qualify for independent use of the Forge Sheet Metal Studio or for individuals who want to gain hands-on training in sheet metal fabrication tools and equipment. Please note this is not a course on how to fabricate metal, but how to use the equipment and tools needed safely.
Details:
- Open to the Public: This class teaches you how to use standard sheet metal shop equipment safely. It is not an official or professional certification.
- Equipment Covered: 3-Way Roller, Shear, Brake, Spot Welder, Baileigh Mag Brake, Finger Brake, Turret Punch, Slip Roller, Hand Shear, Bead Roller, and Grizzly 4-Ton Notcher.
- Note: MIG/TIG welding and plasma cutting are covered in separate classes.
- Qualification: This class qualifies Forge members to use the Sheet Metal Studio equipment independently once the practicum is completed. Practicums are scheduled individually with the facilitator.

Online Learning Materials:
- Access and review the Sheet Metal Shop Qualification materials and videos provided to you upon purchase of the class BEFORE THE CLASS- There are a few hours of materials to go over. If you have not reviewed the online course materials before class, you will not be allowed to take the class.
Class 2 Days: Interactive Workshop (3 hours per day)
- Introduction: Shop safety, rules, and operations
- Hands-On Training: Guided instruction and practice on all listed equipment and tools
Practicum: Qualification Assessment (≈2 hours)
- For Forge Members: Required to demonstrate proficiency and safe, independent use of sheet metal shop equipment.
- For Public Participants: Optional if you’re not seeking Forge qualification.
- Scheduling: Practicum must be scheduled with the facilitator and completed within 2 weeks of the class for qualification.
Class Size:
Minimum Participants: 2 / Maximum Participants: 4
(Class will be rescheduled if minimum enrollment is not met.)

Please note: All classes require a minimum number of participants and may be rescheduled if that minimum is not met. If this happens, we’ll let you know in advance and work with you to get you into the next available class.
Cancellation Policy
Please review our cancellation policy before booking. If you need to cancel your registration, you must notify us at least 7 days before the class start time to receive a refund. Cancellations made within 7 days are non-refundable.
