Immerse yourself in the expressive world of watercolor painting! Whether you’re brand new to watercolor or looking to expand your skills, this hands-on class with artist and educator Chappy Valente will help you gain confidence and technique. Learn to paint with fluidity and intention as you explore the tools, papers, and brushwork that make watercolor such a luminous and rewarding medium.
Each session is a stand-alone class with fresh projects and techniques—join once or come monthly to continue growing your watercolor practice.
What’s the Project:
Create your own watercolor studies exploring washes, color mixing, and texture effects. Each class introduces a new focus—such as landscapes, botanicals, or abstract forms—to inspire your creativity.
What Will They Learn:
- Brush control and paint-to-water ratios
- Wash techniques (wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, gradient)
- Paper types, brush styles, and pigment selection
- Layering, and color blending
- Tips for composition and adding expressive detail
Materials Needed:
All materials are provided for in-class use. Students are welcome to bring their own favorite brushes or watercolor set if desired.
Skill Level / Prerequisites:
All skill levels welcome—from first-time painters to those continuing their watercolor journey.
Class Length:
One 3-hour session
(Optional continuing classes offered monthly)
Fee: $50 + $20 materials
Minimum 3 / Maximum 6 participants
About The Facilitator
Chappy Valente
Chappy Valente, with over forty years of experience, has taught at the International School of Painting, Drawing & Sculpture in Italy and the Art Students League of New York. Now based in Nevada City, Chappy guarantees you’ll be delightfully surprised by the painting you’ll create by the end of the series.
Please note: All classes require a minimum number of participants and may be rescheduled if that minimum is not met. If this happens, we’ll let you know in advance and work with you to get you into the next available class.
Cancellation Policy
Please review our cancellation policy before booking. If you need to cancel your registration, you must notify us at least 7 days before the class start time to receive a refund. Cancellations made within 7 days are non-refundable.
