Description
This holiday season, Bob and Susan Davis invite you to celebrate the pleasure of making something by hand. Each series opens with a brief gathering of both groups, where Bob and Susan introduce Earth, Fire & Light, share examples from both workshops, and talk about the many ways clay, glass, metal, texture, color, and light can come together in small works of art. From there, you’ll move into your chosen studio for focused, hands-on instruction.
Two Workshops to Choose from:
EARTH & FIRE: Ceramic Ornaments with Bob Davis
Working in clay, you’ll create handmade ceramic ornaments while exploring texture, form, impressed designs, and surface decoration. In the first session you’ll build your ornaments; in the second, you’ll add surface decoration and glaze. On the third Sunday, you’ll receive your finished, fired ornaments, and you’re welcome to keep making.
LIGHT: Copper Foil & Soldered Keepsake Ornaments with Susan Davis
Create a one-of-a-kind hanging keepsake using two matching pieces of beveled glass to frame a photograph, image, words, or other meaningful flat memento. The glass is the container; the story it holds is the heart of the piece. Because copper foil and soldering will be new to many participants, the emphasis is on learning the process and finishing a piece you’re proud of, rather than producing a large number. Each participant will complete at least one finished keepsake ornament, with time to make more as your pace allows. The third Sunday offers more time to keep making.
A Shared Celebration
On the final Sunday, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM, both groups come together for Show & Tell, sharing finished ornaments and enjoying holiday snacks provided by Bob and Susan.
